[SO INITIALLY when Allura arrives home, she's clearly feeling fine and dandy. Or at least, as fine as she can be.

But then the next day following the explosion hits. Announcements of contamination and sickness have been made. Allura waking up vargas later than she usually does, with a slight throb of a full body ache, a scratching throat, feeling a few degrees warmer than normal.

The mice seem concerned, picking up on her illness immediately, but she brushes the two mice's concerns away. She'd get dressed, but after a late breakfast once she gets her bearings together. Because obviously she'll feel bad upon first waking up, but it's merely a small cold, nothing more.

Still, she opens her door slowly, peeking out to make sure neither Lance or Keith or already out and about in the main room of their flat, before heading towards the kitchen.

Unfortunately for her, the moment she reaches the fridge to open and grab herself some of that large, citrusy drink she had purchased a few days ago, she turns her head and coughs loudly, and raspily, into her arm.]

[ there is, at first, silence to meet her cough.

then a faint rustle, and lance is peeking his head out of the hallway bathroom a moment later. he'd been in there (primping) for the last thirty minutes — he honestly thought he was alone in the house, as keith's shift (and/or crazy manhunt) started pretty early (despite their, uh. late night) and normally allura's a much earlier riser than them both. ]

...Hello?

[ he creeps out into the hallway cautiously, brandishing a toothbrush like a weapon. ]

[Allura's too busy coughing to notice (or even hear) Lance's approach. But the moment her coughing subsides and she opens her eyes, she can make out a shadowy figure brandishing something at her in the dimly lit hallway.

She lets out a reactive (and still raspy) yelp, chucking the loaf of bread she had been reaching for as a defensive maneuver.

Allura may not have great aim when it comes to firearms, but she has amazing precision when it comes to throwing (even while feeling dreadfully sick), and she's aimed for the mysterious figure's head.]

[ said mysterious figure isn't expecting to get clocked in the head with loaf, but really maybe he should have. the block of bread bops him square in the forehead, and while not hard enough to actually damage, it definitely catches him off-guard. ]

—Ow! What the heck!

[ he stumbles back, reaching out to fumble for the lightswitch and— ]

Allura?? What're you still doing home??

Lance!

[And upon saying his name, she inhales a bit too much air, and begins to have a bit of a coughing fit, giving tell to her gross case of congestion and general sick.

But through her coughs, she still manages to sound annoyed at him.]

What are you doing sneaking up on me in such a manner!

[ he's leaning against the wall, rubbing at his nose. ]

What am I doing? What are you doing! Don't you have work?!

[ he straightens up a bit, taking a moment to look at her in scrutiny. hang on a sec... all that coughing... ]

Wait, are you sick?

No! I had been given the day off.

[Which...she was going to ignore. But now she's overslept so.

Maybe she'll still go.

She's about to say no, but as she draws another breath to get defensive, cue another coughing fit.

Which she recovers from, but not before finding balance by gripping the sink with both hands.]

N-no! It is just from the dry air! I am perfectly fine.

[ dry air...? it's fall! ]

Allura.

[ he doesn't often use his stern voice, and he kind of doubts allura would even notice it, never mind adhere to it... but it worked a lot on his nieces and nephews okay...! ]

You were around when the gas was in the air, and now you're coughing uncontrollably! You need to see a doctor or — or something.

[ON ALTEA FALL HAD VERY DRY AIR TO THE POINT OF FALLING HOT ROCKS CAUSING FIELD FIRES OR WHATEVER.]

Lance.

[She'll use her stern voice in turn, because she may be an only child with no younger siblings/neices/nephews/etc. to talk to in such a manner, she is a Princess and a leader and raised to know how to make herself sound commanding and firm.

She's pouring herself that glass of juice she had come into the kitchen for in the first place, turning away from Lance.]

I am fine. It's nothing worse than a common Altean cold.

[ lance only continues to look dubious, though, but it's a bit hard arguing with a tone that has x-number of years backed by nobility and diplomacy. ]

...Fine. But if you start to feel any worse, you're marching straight to bed, missy!

[ but dang if he doesn't try. ]
